A must have for Audi enthusiasts This is a beautifully produced book and despite being a Kindle enthusiast this book shows why there’ll always be space for the two mediums to co-exist. This book is a beautiful object in its own right plus the content is a fitting homage to Audi as it evidences meticulous research and attention to detail. “The Four Rings” covers the evolution of the Audi, DKW, Horch, Wanderer and NSU marques from as far back as 1873 to 2009. The presentation is magnificent with black and white and colour pictures on virtually every page with plenty of detailed and highly informative text. The book concludes with various appendices including a “who’s who?” of the Audi World.
From August Horch to Walter de ‘Silver–Superb. The names Mercedes and Audi both have romantic origins. Mercedes was the daughter of Daimlers agent in France and Audi was namd by 12 year old Heinrick Fikentscher: it is latin for ‘Listen’, which is the meaning of the German name Horch. August Horch had fallen out with the directors of his company and left to found another one- but could not use his own name. Through a twist of fate in 1932 Horch and Audi combined with DKW and Wanderer to form Auto Union- four companies, hence the famous four ‘linked’ rings. Audi was really then very small and not a great success, so its slightly ironic that today it is one of the most successful auto companies in the world.
Must like Audi I drive an Audi. A big fast black one. I like it. A lot. And I wanted a book about Audi. And other Audis over the years. This is a nice book. Probably most useful for those who like Audi and Audis.
